About ME

| Hello All!
Welcome to my About Me Page! My name is Lisa Beaman and I make lampwork glass beads. In January of 2001, I decided to go back to school for a career change. My plan was taking 2 or 3 classes a semester in a Motorsports Management program, and designing jewelry as my source of income. I found myself constantly searching for certain bead shapes and colors, which I could not find. So in May of 2002, I took a glass beadmaking class for four hours. At the time I felt like didn’t learn much and was very intimidated. I continued melting glass, reading, researching, and teaching myself everything I could.

| Finally, in January of 2005, I found a local group of lampwork glass bead makers and started attending meetings. Through these new friendships, I was encouraged to take some classes. In April of 2005, I took a two-day lampworked glass bead class with Deanna Griffin Dove. The class opened my floodgates with inspiration and I felt a great improvement in my beadmaking. Later in 2005, I also attended "bead camp" for a week at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN. It was one week of nothing but learning new techniques, and melting glass to practice the new stuff. Once again, my handmade lampwork glass beads showed more originality and style.

| I did graduate from the Motorsports Management program in May of 2005, and made a life changing decision. I want continue my lampwork beadmaking pursuing my creative side, so I had to forego full-time Motorsports career. With this in mind, I have kicked it up a notch, expanded with this website, signed up for a few beads shows, and will exhibit some of my jewelry pieces in a local art gallery. In October, one of my lampwork bead jewelry pieces received an award as a finalist in Art with Heart, a local contest for emerging artists. As a lampwork bead artist, my jewelry was on exhibit at the Charlotte Arts League for the whole month.
